WANA (Apr 12) – The first round of indirect negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States on sanctions relief and nuclear issues has just concluded.

Mediated by Oman, the talks involved Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Steve Whitcoff, the US President’s Special Representative for Middle East Affairs. In a constructive atmosphere based on mutual respect, the two sides conveyed their governments’ positions on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and the lifting of unlawful sanctions, through the Omani Foreign Minister.

Both parties agreed to resume the talks next week. The exact date of the next session will be announced soon.

A member of the Iranian negotiating team described the overall course of the Iran–US indirect talks so far as “positive.”

Notably, after more than two and a half hours of discussions, the heads of the Iranian and US delegations exchanged brief words in the presence of Oman’s Foreign Minister before leaving the venue.
